Beginning in the Middle 2018

March 1-4, 2018

BITM is a harp conference designed for adult harpists at ALL skill levels. We are excited to be bringing this conference back for one LAST time under the direction of Mary Jane D’Arville and Megan Landfair.

We have gathered a world-class faculty to present a non-stop schedule of workshops, lessons, and concerts to inspire you and help you reach your goals.

This year we are excited to have Lynne Aspnes, Robbin Gordon-Cartier, Deborah Henson-Conant, Kim Robertson and Frank Voltz on faculty. We will also have staff members from both our New Jersey and Virginia showrooms to help you with all of your exhibit hall purchases.

American Harp Society National Conference

June 30- July 3, 2016

We are thrilled to be a returning exhibitor and Bronze Sponsor at the AHS National Conference in Atlanta, GA. Our extensive booth will feature new and used harps, music, strings and accessories from the Virginia Harp Center, Atlanta Harp Center, Camac Harps, and Premier Harp Strings. Princeton Harp Festival

Introductory Harp Class

Saturday, July 16th, 2016 | 2:00 - 4:00 PM

Join us for a two hour introductory class on playing the harp taught in a group lesson format by a trained, professional harpist. Students of all ages who are interested in learning to play the harp are encouraged to attend. You will learn the basic techniques of playing the harp in addition to fundamental musical principles such as rhythm, note reading and dynamics. Harps will be provided for the class and available for monthly rental as part of our Rent-to-Own program.

Somerset Folk Harp Festival 2017

July 20- 23, 2017

As one of the highlights of our summer, Virginia Harp Center is excited to return as one of the largest vendors to the Somerset Folk Harp Festival in Parsippany, NJ. We will be joined by Camac Harps to bring you an extensive selection of harps, music, strings, and accessories.

PART I: Come Get Your Game on at RVA College Day!

Part 1 of RVA Harp Day is dedicated to middle and high school students interested in continuing their harp studies beyond high school. If you are planning to make music part of your college experience, this is your chance to meet harp professors from universities throughout the Mid-Atlantic region and learn about various options available for harp students, including majoring/minoring in harp, orchestral and ensemble experience and private studio lesson policies. You will have the opportunity to spend individual time with our esteemed faculty as well as perform on the Student Showcase.

PART II: Coming Spring 2017

The Art of Teaching – Guest Moderator/Speaker: Dr. Lynne Aspnes

On Sunday, February 26, from 2-5PM, Virginia Harp Center in Richmond would like to invite teachers to The Art of Teaching. This event will be a forum for sharing ideas and finding renewed inspiration from your colleagues!  Dr. Lynne Aspnes will be our speaker/moderator for an afternoon of conversation, wine and cheese.

Dr. Aspnes’ accomplishments include Professor Emerita for the University of Michigan, former harp professor at Arizona State University and Interlochen Center for the Arts Summer Program and founder of the American Harp Center.  Her reputation as a world class teacher is rooted in a philosophy based on guiding students to find their inspiration and independence with an approach to pedagogy that is informed by multiple influences.

Christopher Newport University Harp Festival

The Virginia Harp Center is pleased to be sponsoring a vendor fair at the Christopher Newport University Harp Festival. This will be an exciting day full of workshops, masterclasses, and performances open to harpists of all styles and levels.  Participants listen to and work with renown national and international harpists and harp ensembles, including CNU Professor of Harp Dr. Anastasia Pike, the Virginia Symphony Flute and Harp Duo, Isabelle Frouvelle, the Maryland Classic Youth Orchestras Harp Ensemble, Lilac94, and the American Youth Harp Ensemble, as well as experts from the Riverside Performing Arts Medicine Program.

Don’t miss this great opportunity to meet world renowned harpist, Bridget Kibbey!

Lauded for her compelling artistry and virtuosity, harpist Bridget Kibbey is gaining a reputation for showcasing the broad range of her instrument through multiple-genre performances — drawing diverse audiences through new collaborations and platforms. Bridget is a recipient of the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant, the Classical Recording Foundation’s Young Artist Award, a 2015 Salon de Virtuosi Grant, and the only harpist to win a position with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center’s Chamber Music Society II. She tours internationally as a concerto soloist, recitalist, and collaborator with some of today’s most compelling artists.

VCU Harp Day

May 20th, 2017

Virginia Harp Center is proud to sponsor the first annual VCU Harp Day
presented by harp professor Dr. Colleen Thorburn and featuring harp duo Addi & Jacq

VCU Harp Day will take place on Saturday, May 20th from 9-6. 

COST: $40 registration before April 30 / $55 registration after April 30

Addi & Jacq will be presenting workshops throughout the day and will perform at 5PM. at the James W. Black Music Center on the VCU campus.

The Camac Festival Washington, DC

November 3rd - 5th, 2017

The Virginia Harp Center is excited to be a part of the Camac Festival this November in Washington, DC taking place at the Sheraton Suites Old Town Alexandria. This wonderful opportunity is generously being offered by Camac Harps for free, so be sure not to miss this invaluable experience! Although participation in the festival is completely free it is necessary to register, just call Megan in our New Jersey showroom at (856) 428-1430.

On Friday, November 3rd, the festival will open with world-renowned harpist Isabelle Moretti.  She will perform a classical program, preceded by Janice Hur, a young winner of the Felix Godefroid International Competition. Also enjoy some unique chamber music performed by Apple Orange Pair which includes Emily Boyer, horn, and Colleen Potter Thorburn, harp.

Saturday, November 4th will continue bright and early, with Camac’s exhibition opening at 9AM, before a masterclass with Isabelle Moretti at 10AM. In the afternoon, you can work with Nikolaz Cadoret, rising star of the lever harp world, in a dynamic Celtic workshop. In the evening enjoy a pop and jazz concert featuring Charles Overton and Addi and Jacq.

Sunday, November 5th will be the final day of the festival. There will be a pop harp workshop with Addi and Jacq in the morning, open to all ages and levels. The final concert will take place at 2pm and features Nikolaz Cadoret who will take to the stage with no less than three young harp ensembles from the DC area – the Maryland Classic Youth Harp Ensemble, directed by Monika Vasey, and Anastasia Pike and Michaela Trnkova’s Preparatory Harp Ensembles from the Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University.
